Three Locals Held For Violating Immigration Acts

Bandar Seri Begawan – Three locals were detained for violating the Immigration Acts during the four-hour operation at the Brunei waters yesterday morning.

The law enforcement agencies conducted the operation codenamed "Operasi Bersepadu Aman" at 7.30 a.m. at several entry points.

The operation involved more than 50 personnel from various enforcement agencies.

During the operation, the law enforcement personnel inspected travel documents on people fishing in Brunei waters.

The inspection ensured that actions would be taken against people entering the country illegally.

A local couple returning home from a neighbouring country was arrested at the Kampong Putat water area.

The suspects along with their boat and all their belongings were later brought to the Immigration Control Post in Bandar Seri Begawan for further investigations.

According to the Immigration Department, the couple had violated the Immigration Law by leaving the country without any travelling documents.

They were also found to have brought controlled goods into the country which exceeded the amount allowed.

The enforcement agencies continued their inspections on foreigners who entered the country through Brunei waters.

This was to ensure that they had proper travelling documents and to prevent any foreigner entering Brunei illegally.

Another local was detained later during the operation after he tried to leave the country without permit off Pulau Selirong.

Yesterday's operation was carried out at various strategic locations at Kampong Putat and Menunggol water area, Pulau Chermin as well as other main entrances to Brunei waters.

The operation was a continuous effort by the law enforcement agencies to curb illegal activities in Brunei waters.

The Immigration Department urged the public to carry with them valid travel documents before leaving the country.

Anyone, who violated the Immigration Acts, would be brought before the court and have to pay a fine of $2,000. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
