Unique Cuisine At Japanese Food Fest In Gadong

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei residents will have an opportunity to taste and savour the unique flavours of Japanese cuisine at a Japanese Food Fest which will open on Saturday, October 4, from 2-5pm, on 7th of Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.

The Food Festival, which will go on until Sunday, October 5, is free for all. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The event promises to be both riveting and enlightening and will appeal to people of all ages.

For those keen on learning how to prepare delicious Japanese favourites such as sushi and tempura, this is the place to go on the weekend.

Chef Takeshi Inagaki will be giving a fantastic demonstration which will include an opportunity for those present to taste his delectable creations.

If you have a weakness for sweet candy and pretty shapes, then your dreams will come true at the ‘candy art’ demonstration.

Mr Michio AOKI, a Japanese ‘candy artist’ will reveal his skill and dexterity as he expertly produces delightfully shaped and decorated pieces of candy.

The Food Fest will conclude with a Japanese rice pounding or ‘Mothisuki’ display, an important ‘New Year’ custom for the Japanese.

‘Mochitsuki’ is the expression used to describe the traditional pounding of steamed glutinous rice in a large wooden mortar.

The mixture is then transformed into ‘mochi’ or small, round rice cakes which can be eaten with condiments such as ‘kinako’ (roasts soy bean flour), ‘anko’ (sweet red bran paste), soy sauce and seaweed.

The Food Fest is expected to be another inspiring and exciting event taking place during the ASEAN-Japan Exchange Year 2003.

It will provide Bruneians with a great opportunity to embrace an important aspect of Japanese culture, further strengthening the bonds and developing understanding between Brunei and Japan.

The Embassy of Japan and the Japanese Association of Brunei Darussalam are jointly organizing the Food Fest.
