Bruneian wins Lambir Challenge
By George Francis
Bruneian Sefli Ahar emerged as the
champion in the Lambir Rainforest Challenge 2003 run.
The 29-year-old police officer from
Temburong beat 147 other challengers in a gruelling 14 km race through
the rugged terrains of the Lambir Hills National Park, about 33 km
from Miri in Sarawak.
Sefli
won RM4,000, the challenge trophy and a personal trophy for his win
in, what is claimed to be, the richest trail running event in
Southeast Asia.
This year's Lambir Rainforest
Challenge attracted runners from across the region as well as
Japanese, New Zealanders and British participants.
Sabahans
Guanus Salagan, Yusof Tungkah, Yatim Zainul and Kuyun Sidau took the
next five places behind Sefli. The women's race was won by another
Sabahan Hasni Salagan, ahead of West Malaysian Deani Sohie and Briton
Helen Grant.
