Exercise To Net In Illegal Fishing Conducted In Tutong

Tutong - The law enforcement agencies are continuing their operation against illegal fishing activities in Brunei waters, a Fisheries Department spokesman said.

Yesterday a surveillance exercise was carried out on seven companies registered at the Tutong District.

The operation codename "Operasi Kembura 16" took place at the docking bay at Kampong Kuala Tutong in Tutong District.

The Fisheries Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, the Internal Security Department, Labour Department and Immigration Department jointly conducted the exercise.

The operation, which commenced at 8 am, was focused on the licensing regulations for fishing issued by the Fisheries Department.

The one-hour operation was to ensure that the fishermen followed the fisheries act accordingly as well as to ensure companies abided by the rules and regulations of the Labour and Immigration Department.

The possible employment of illegal fishermen was also probed. The operation was also to ensure that the fishermen did not use explosives and poisons.

During the operation, the enforcement agencies found that all fishing companies have been obeying the rules and regulations. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
