Exercise To Net In Illegal Fishing
Conducted In Tutong

Tutong
- The law enforcement agencies are continuing their operation
against illegal fishing activities in Brunei waters, a Fisheries
Department spokesman said.
Yesterday a surveillance exercise was
carried out on seven companies registered at the Tutong District.
The operation codename "Operasi
Kembura 16" took place at the docking bay at Kampong Kuala Tutong in
Tutong District.
The Fisheries Department, Royal
Brunei Police Force, the Internal Security Department, Labour
Department and Immigration Department jointly conducted the exercise.
The operation, which commenced at 8
am, was focused on the licensing regulations for fishing issued by the
Fisheries Department.
The one-hour operation was to ensure
that the fishermen followed the fisheries act accordingly as well as
to ensure companies abided by the rules and regulations of the Labour
and Immigration Department.
The possible employment of illegal
fishermen was also probed. The operation was also to ensure that the
fishermen did not use explosives and poisons.
During the operation, the enforcement
agencies found that all fishing companies have been obeying the rules
