Beer Stashed In Boat, Local Nabbed

Kuala Belait -
A local man in his late thirties was apprehended early
yesterday morning by the Royal Customs and Excess Department for
smuggling i50 cartons of beer, estimated to be worth B$1,500 on the
black market.
It was reported that the offender
smuggled the alcohol from Kuala Baram, Miri, by concealing the cartons
in a blue and white fibreglass boat.
Acting on a tip-off over his
suspicious conduct, a team of nine enforcement officers both from
Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Belait Customs and Excise Department
made their move at 7am, keeping surveillance at the Ferry Terminal
Kuala Belait.
At 9.20am, the team found the
suspected boat going through Kuala Sungai Teraban, heading straight
for the offender’s residence.
In the ensuing raid on the suspect’s
home in Kg. Sungai Teraban, Kuala Belait, the 50 cartons of beer were
found hidden in his boat. The offender is being remanded at the
Customs headquarters, pending a court hearing.
