The Intensive Supplementary Reading
Materials Workshop was officially launched by yesterday by the
Director of Language and Literature Bureau, Awg Hj Abd Hakim Hj Mohd
Yassin
Thirty five participants joined the
workshop, a follow up of the previous workshop conducted last year, at
the "Dewan Saryamuda".
The director said participants should
study psychology and culture as well as values in life, clothes and
food, transportation, besides conversing, expressing, and choice of
words.
He also stated participants need to
know what is wanted, needed and hoped for by the readers. Participants
should focus on schooling children and youths.
The workshop hopes to expose selected
participants to a more intensive training and understanding through
experience and skilful guides in the writing of the supplementary
reading materials.
Among the objectives of the workshop
are to prepare supplementary reading materials for primary 1 to 6
schools (in 'rumi' and 'jawi') and to diversify the materials suited
with the educational level as arranged by the Curriculum Department of
Ministry of Education.
Besides giving an opportunity to
local writers in getting involved with the writing of the
supplementary materials, it also prepares guidelines to the writers as
well as to encourage them in producing creative and active
supplementary reading materials.
