White Cane Day Observed In Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei National Association of the Blind yesterday observed the White Cane Safety Day in which the Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Dato Haji Abdul Rahman officiated the event.

Dato Haji Abdul Rahman in his address expressed the appreciation on the efforts put up by the association in bringing together the sight impaired to live a normal life and be at par with more fortunate fellow citizens.

Such efforts he said would help acquaint the blind of their right to existence.

Touching on the security aspects, Dato Haji Abdul Rahman suggested that suitable and safe facilities should be made available in public premises and shopping complexes that will be of assistance not only for those who have affected sights but also for the use of other less fortunate people and the elderly.

The Permanent Secretary made the remarks when he declared open the White Cane Safety Day at the Taman Haji Omar Ali Safuddien in the capital.
