world-renowned Sydney IVF fertility centre at JPMC's fertility
laboratory.
The Jerudong Park Medical Centre's
In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) programme, developed in
collaboration with the world-renowned Sydney IVF Centre in
Australia, is the only comprehensive fertility service including
IVF, in Brunei Darussalam.
Embryologist cum laboratory
manager for the past seven years at Sydney IVF, Samantha
Simpson, is a science graduate from Sydney. She is currently at
JPMC.
In an interview with Ms
Simpson, she mentioned that since March of this year, 70
patients have enrolled in the IVF program at JPMC, coordinated
by fertility specialist Dr. Farouk Mahmoud.
When asked what is IVF and what
is her role in the IVF programme, she explained that IVF is
where fertilisation of eggs occur outside the human body in a
fertility laboratory to help couples who have difficulty in
conceiving naturally. Her role is to facilitate the
fertilisation process and oversee the culture, once the doctor
has extracted the embryos, until they are transferred back into
the woman.
Embryologist Samantha Simpson
will deliver a lecture with Dr Farouk Mahmoud at a public forum
at JPMC next Friday (Oct 18) from 4pm to 6pm. To reserve a seat
or for inquiries, contact JPMC at 02-611433.
