His Majesty Receives Visiting Vietnamese Army Chief In Audience

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah have received in audience the Chief of General Staff for the People's Armed Forces of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Lt Gen Phung Quang Thenh yesterday at Istana Nurul Iman.

Present at the audience were the Health Minister Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abu Bakar, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander Pehin Maj Gen Dato Haji Awang Haji Mohd Jaafar and the Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office and Defence Ministry.

Lt Gen Phung Quang Thenh is also a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party and holds the post of Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Chief of General Staff for the People's Armed Forces is in the sultanate for a three-day official visit.

Meanwhile, the Chief of General Staff for the People's Armed Forces of Vietnam Lt Gen Phung Quang Thenh and delegation made a courtesy call to the Defence Deputy Minister (Ret) Maj Gen Pengiran Haji Ibnu Ba'asith.

Lt Gen Phung Quang Thenh was welcomed at the Bolkiah Garrison in Berakas by the Commander of the RBAF and the Permanent Secretary at the Defence Ministry Dato Haji Abdul Rahman.

During the visit the Vietnamese Chief of General Staff for the People's Armed Forces was briefed on the structure of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces by Lt Col Joefri bin Haji Abdullah.
