Joint
Ventures Best For Brunei’s Industrial Transition, Says Prince QaWi

Mr. Lex Vanderberg
Bandar
Seri Begawan – Creating joint ventures will be beneficial to
Brunei in many ways, said Prince Qwai, a leading Brunei businessman
and Deputy Chairman of QAF Group of companies.
He
said with globalisation and liberalization of market economies,
embarking on such ventures will be useful in transitioning the Brunei
economy from being oil and gas dependent to that of an industrialized
nation.
With
this in view the Jeffrey Bolkiah College of Engineering has embarked
on an apprenticeship training programme on air-conditioning and
refrigeration conducted by Q-Carrier, the local affiliate of the multinational air
conditioning conglomerate.
The
18-month course will provide students at the college who are Bruneians with the necessary skills and to develop networking.
| Prince
Abdul Qawi says such venture between the Jeffrey Bolkiah College
of Engineering and Q-Carrier was an important step in developing
the country’s human resource capabilities and as a model for
joint ventures with various other multinationals in future. |

Meanwhile
the Business Development Manager of Carrier, Dayang Shareena
Abdullah explained that the apprenticeship programme is aimed at
providing the students with on-hand knowledge of the technical side of
air-conditioning and refrigeration.
The
Vice President of the United Technology Carrier Mr. Lex Vanderberg said that both the
metrological climate and the business climate make it very
conducive for joint ventures in Brunei.
