Young Bruneian Students Triumph In
International Mathematics Competition

Begawan - Two local students did Brunei proud when they won
bronze medals for the Upper Primary category in the International
Mathematics Competition (IMC) 2008 that took place in Chiang Mai,
Thailand, from Oct 24 to 31. The winners were Ak Muhd Al-Ameen Pg
Mohd Yani from Sekolah Tunas Jaya PGGMB in Lambak and St Andrew
School's Urn Jia Ying. The contest was organized by the Bureau of
Educational Innovation, Thailand's Ministry of Education.

Bruneian
students competed against participants from 24 other
countries. Altogether, there were 224 participants in the
Upper Primary category and 260 participants in the Lower
Secondary. Four local students competed in the Upper Primary
category. The three other participants were Leong Chic Hui
of St George's School, St Andrew's Lim Jia Ying and
Nurhazimah Mahmud from Sunshine School in Gadong.
Another four took part in
the Lower Secondary. The other three were Chin Le Hui from
Pg Jaya Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar Secondary School, Radio Mas
School's Sofiyahwati Radin Mas Mohd Sufi,Nurul Bahriah
Afigah Hj Matali and Han Tzuen Chour - all from the Science

delegation was led by
Cikgu Satinah Hj Abang, an Education Officer from the
Ministry of Education's STEP Centre.
Also accompanying them
were Cikgu Syed Rozman Hj Syed Abd Rahim, also an
Education Officer from the STEP Centre, Cikgu Yus
Sandera Md Hassan of Maktab Duli and Cikgu Stephanie Lee
Mei Hui from SM Sultan Sharif Ali.
