Brunei, KL To Combat
Non-Communicable Diseases

(Bemama) - Malaysia and Brunei have agreed on a proposal to
form two additional technical working groups pertaining to
non-communicable diseases and traditional and complementary
medicine.

Health
Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the joint cooperation on
health involving the two countries did not just hinge on
exchange of information but also on how to combat
non-communicable diseases," he told a press conference after
the 4th Bilateral Ministers of Health Meeting between
Malaysia and Brunei at a hotel here yesterday.
Also present was Brunei
Health Minister Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri
Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman.
Liow also encouraged Brunei
citizens to make use of the excellent health facilities in
the country, especially Melaka, which include private
hospitals.

The Brunei Health Minister
said apart from the challenges posed by the increase in
non-communicable diseases and by the emergence and
re-emergence of infectious diseases, Brunei's healthcare
services faced constraints over the shortage of
healthcare professionals. |
"We hope Malaysia could Pain more
of our people in certain fields such as dentistry, pharmacy, nurse
training, nutrition and diet," he said. --
