Pilgrims Told To Follow Hand-Carry Guidelines
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan – A thousands of pilgrims are now leaving the county to perform the haj, they are reminded, of the guidelines on hand-carry luggage as security rules are enforced on taking liquids, aerosols and gels in hand luggage’s for international passengers. This also goes to other travelers leaving the country.

Signboards have been placed at the airport to inform travelers about the guidelines. To ensure their safety, the Department of Civil Aviation has introduced rules about taking liquids, aerosols and gels on flights departing Brunei.

These rules are needed to protect travelers from the threat of liquid explosives. Each container of liquids, aerosols or gels in their carry-on baggage must be 100 mililitres/100gm/3.4oz or less.

Travelers can still carry prescription medicines through the screening point. Baby products and nonprescription medicines that they need for the flight are also allowed. Proof of need may be required.

Travelers should pack any liquids, aerosols or gels greater than 100m1 that they wish to bring along into their check-in luggages.

Before checking in, travelers need to sort out any liquids, aerosols and gels that they plan to take on the flight. If possible, they need to do this before leaving for the airport. All liquids, aerosols and gels that the travelers intend to take in the carry-on baggage must be in containers of 100m1 in volume or smaller (that is equal to 100gm in weight).

Any container larger than 100m1 will need to be packed into their check-in baggage’s or left behind. Partially filled containers larger than 100m1 will not be accepted. Travelers have to place the containers that they may wish to take in their carry-on baggage into a transparent, resalable plastic bag. The bag must be greater than one liter in size, for instance 20x2Ocin or I5x25cm. Travelers can purchase these bags at supermarkets or from airport retail outlets.

The plastic bag should close comfortably when full. If it doesn't, they need to remove some items. Only one bag is allowed per person. Travelers have to keep this bag accessible in their carry-on baggage.

At the security screening point, they must present all liquids inside the plastic bag for checks. They must surrender any liquids, aerosols or gels greater than 100m1 that they still have and these items will be confiscated.

Security staff may ask for proof of need for any medicines that they carry, like matching the name on the prescription medication with the boarding pass.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
