Students Report On Internship Programme

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two University Brunei Darussalam students reported on their attachment experiences yesterday in a seminar organized by UBD Associate Professor David Prescott.

Nurul Hafizah, 22, said she gained improved interpersonal and professional communication skills and a better understanding he culture of the Royal Brunei Police Force as part of the many law enforcement agencies in Brunei.

She and Hjh Fatillah Ili Haji Abdullah Hanif, final year communication students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, made the report on their internship experiences during the seminar.

"The work attachment has proved to be very successful. It is clearly beneficial to students who can demonstrate confident communication and interpersonal skills in both written reports and in seminar presentations," said Dr Prescott.
 

The success of the work attachment program owes a great deal to cooperation between UBD and the public and private sector organizations which host students, he said.

Principal contact personnel from the host institutions involved in the attachment program indicates willingness for further involvement in the future and showed their serious commitment to the program and the thoughtful and constructive suggestions are very much valued, he said.

RBPF was represented at the seminar by Superintendent Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali, Head of Training at the Police Headquarters in Gadong. He was accompanied by Assistant Superintendent Pg Hjh Nafiah bte Pg Hj Asti, Head of RBPF Women and Child Abuse Unit, which hosted Nurul Hafizah during her attachment.

BAG Networks, which hosted Hjh Fatillah during her attachment, was represented by Pg Haji Emran PDSB Haji Ahmad and Dyg Nur Khatijah bte Ramli.

For many undergraduates in Brunei Darussalam, work attachment is where they get to experience and understand a real working environment.

The UBD, as Brunei's leading university in enrolment, has organized and cooperated with host institutions, government and private sector, work attachment programs for students in their final year.
