Public Reminded Of Precautionary Measures During Rain, Flooding
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - Following the recurrence of heavy rain and flooding, the Ministry of Health yesterday reminded the public, especially residents living in flood-prone areas, to take precautionary measures to avoid any mishaps or the risk of spreading infectious diseases like cholera, typhoid and diarrhea, among others.

Some necessary precautionary measures that should be taken in the event of flooding include ensuring that water supply is clean and uncontaminated, drinking water should first be boiled or drink bottled water instead, cooking food thoroughly and prioritizing self-cleanliness, specifically washing hands with clean water before handling food and after using the toilet.

Residents were also advised to keep the environment clean and not to litter, to seek treatment when they experience symptoms such as stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and so on, prioritize safety, especially by avoiding the exposure of children to floods so as to prevent accidental events, such as drowning, injury and

infection, and to avoid touching electrical cables near floodwaters. Hospitals and health centers throughout the country will also continuously monitor for any diseases that are caused by flooding.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
