Mobile Users Match Population

Begawan - The number of mobile phones used in Brunei is found
to keep pace with the Sultanate's population.
The latest Info-Communication
indicators have highlighted that since tune 2007, the number of
mobile phone subscribers have been estimated to be around 339,874.
Out of the total, 289,000 are
prepaid users from the two mobile phone service providers, DST and
B-Mobile.
Post paid subscribers for both
service providers mounted to 50,874 subscribers.
Brunei's population for 2007 is
estimated to be at 391,877 based on the figures from the Department
of Economic Planning & Development (JPKE)
This was highlighted yesterday by
Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei
Darussalam (AITI).
AITI
also revealed that mobile cellular subscribers per 100 inhabitants
stood at 86.73 %. Fixed telephone line subscribers are 79,248.
Meanwhile fixed telephone lines per 100 subscribers stood at 20.22%.
The figure was revealed yesterday
to clarify a report made by Research & Markets on Thursday which
said that mobile phone penetration in the sultanate is 114% while
the number of mobile subscribers in the sultanate was 0.44 million
