Kids Have A Colourful Blast On
Universal Children’s Day

Begawan - Spirits were high and smiles were plastered on the
faces of the 1,000 students participating in the Universal
Children's Day colouring contest, which was held at the Taman Haji
Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien yesterday.
The children - from various primary
schools within the Brunei-Muara District and from Pusat Bahagia -
attended the event to have fun, showcase their colouring skills and
to interact with others.
The competition - organised by the
Community Development Department commenced at 7.45am, and received
tremendous response from the public. Among the strong turnout of
children were 50 special children from Pusat Bahagia, which comes
under the Community Development Department.
According to the Organising
Committee Chairman Mohd Hussaini binAbdullah, the contest is part of
activities held in conjunction with Universal Children's Day. "It
has been declared by the United Nations that Universal Children's
Day falls on November 20, and it symbolises a sign of friendship and
understanding among the children of the world, he added.
Later he thanked the various
sponsors for making the event a success. The-contest was divided
into three categories: Category A - for students in pre school to
Primary III, Category B - for students in Primary IV to VI, and
Category C for special children under 18.
Present as guest of honour was
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports
Dato Paduka Hj Jemat bin Hj Ampal, who later presented prizes to the
winners.
The guest of honour also presented
tokens of appreciation to the various sponsors of the event.
Present at the colourful
competition were directors, assistant directors and personnel of the
Community Development Department. Aside from having fun with their
