Brunei Students To Get A Taste Of
Japanese Lifestyle By James

Begawan - A doa selamat ceremony was yesterday held for the
eight local students who will be participating in a brief Exchange
Programme for Asean High School Students, which runs from December 7
- 26 in Japan.
Held at the Ministry of Education,
the ceremony saw Ministry of Education Administration and Services
Department Director Hj Abdullah bin Hj Metassim present as guest of
honour.
In his welcoming speech, the guest
of honour said the programme would provide participants an
opportunity to learn from Japanese students and visit several places
of interest, while residing with foster families.
He also expressed hopes that the
participants would uphold the good image of Brunei Darussalam,
displaying politeness and courtesy.
Meanwhile, STEPActing Head Hj
Metali bin Hj Mirasan said in a separate speech that the aim of the
programme - which is funded by America Field Studies of Japan - is
to give students from different countries, a chance to interact with
Japanese students.
Through the foster family programme,
it is hoped they will gain a better understanding of the culture and
lifestyle of the people of Japan. He hoped the participants would
make good use of this trip and later share their experience with
others.
Following the speeches, the guest
of honour presented the national flag to the eight participants.
The participating students are
Jason Lih Cheng Kok, Ak Mohammad Shaherwan bin Pg Idris, Abang
Muhammad Salih Hanafi bin Abang Mustafa, Wong Kuo Hong, Sarah Hanaa
binti Hj Ahmad Ghazali, Nur Izzali binti Hj Sahari, and Siti Nur
Idayu binti Matusin
Since 2001, a total of 21 students
