Begawan - Nineteen teachers from Sekolah Menengah Pg Jaya
Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar who have recently retired were awarded
yesterday morning at a Teacher's Day celebration. They received
their awards as a form of recognition for their teaching service of
over 25 years.
The guest of honour at the event
was Awg Juna bin Jumat, the Acting Assistant Director of Schools
Department.
In his speech, he said that
professionalism in teachers was a key to quality increase. "A
quality and excellent teacher would not only offer effective
teaching but also assist in influencing the future lives of the
children they guide," he said.
He urged teachers to practice a
strong and excellent work culture to lead the children to be future
leaders.
He then praised the secondary
school for their achiedement and efforts by school members in
building the school's image through character-building. As one of
the secondary schools with a special scheme on science class, the
school was able to compete with other secondary schools, and
succeeded in exhibiting a good reputation in various participating
activities within the national, regional and international levels.
Academically, the school through
the science class special scheme achieved 100 per cent pass rate in
PMB and GCE `O' level examinations from 2003 to 2005.
The school has also constantly won
first and second place in project competitions organised by the
Ministry of Education such as Quality and Equity in Education for
SMARTs System project, Science CD-Rom competition, and won a gold
award in the National School Health Exhibition and many more.
In the regional and international
level the school's students were selected and committed in the
participation of student exchange programmes to Japan and Manila
last year, Sports Olympic Camp 2004 in Athens, SUKMA. Sports and a
