Musical In KL Attracts Bruneian Audience
By Rosli Abidin Yahya in Kuala Lumpur

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's theatre activists were among the premiere show's guests for a play entitled "Muzikal Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu" recently held at the Panggong Seri Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur.

The play is adapted from a popular television sitcom programme of the same name on Malaysia's TV3. The opening ceremony was officiated by Malaysian Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim.

The guest of honour said that he welcomed the theatrical performance after years of the long-running sitcom. "The drama serial portrays a community of various races living in harmony - an attractive metaphor of life in KL. `Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu' must be seen by all Malaysians, as the issues raised are relevant and faced in daily life," he said.

Directed by Othman Hafsham, the former director of Istana Budaya and .currently a lecturer of Universiti Teknologi Mara Fakulti Teknologi Kreatif and Artistik, the play will continue to run until Dec. 3.

Written by Dr HattaAzad Khan, it stars Zami Ismail, Zaibo, Sabri Yunos, Khatijah Tan, Angeline Tan and Imuda - the same actors who appeared on the TV programme. The activists from Brunei led by Pg Hj Abu Bakar Pg DP Hj Mohammad said they were impressed with the musical. Also in attendance were some Bruneian students currently studying in KL.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
