Industrial Statistics Seminar For
Good Of Economy
By James Kon & Sonia K.
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A two-day seminar on industrial statistics
organised by the government of Japan ended yesterday at the
Institute of Public Services.
The event was the result of
consultations between the Asean Economic Ministers and the Japanese
Minister of Economy Trade and Industry.
Attended by 40 Bruneian government
officials in the field of Statistical Affairs, the programme's main
goal was to strengthen its participants' knowledge and applicable
skills as a step towards ensuring a successful economic census.
Mr
Sakae Yoshida, Director of Statistics Planning, from the Ministry of
Economy, Trade and Industry, presented a talk on the "Statistical
System in Japan and Industrial Statistics of METI", while Dr Wang
Zai Zhe, Professor of Rissho University, delivered the "Chinese
Industrial Statistics System and Economic Census".
Mr
Hashimoto Itsuo, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei, also emphasised the
importance of drawing up industrial statistics to retain sustainable
development as well as to objectively evaluate and monitor projects
or policies before and after implementation.
The rationale behind this is that
in due course, the cycle of performance's improvements due to
feedbacks would eventually follow and be established into a more
concrete form.
Therefore, the public and private
sector as well as individuals need to adequately plan and be aware
of climate changes in the economic structure. To do so, accurate
statistics are essential.
Mr
Hashimoto Itsuo also hoped that this would further strengthen the
bilateral cooperation between the two countries. -- Courtesy of Borneo
