British Oil Delegation To Explore
Brunei Market
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Business ties between the UK and Brunei Darussalam
in oil and gas and related energy sectors are expected to be
strengthened with a visit by a group often UK companies from the NOF
Energy to the Sultanate on Thursday.
The UK trade delegation is coming
to Brunei as part of its three-country oil and gas market visit that
includes Malaysia and Singapore.
The UK Trade and Investment Section
at the British High Commission will be arranging a fourday Oil & Gas
Market Visit in association with NOF Energy, a business development
organisation based in the UK.
A press release from the British
High Commission said the aim of the visit is to introduce UK
suppliers to the local market and to encourage UK businesses to
develop working relationships with companies in Brunei.
The group will arrive from Kuala
Lumpur and will depart on Sunday for Singapore. Accompanying the
group are three members of staff from UK Trade & Investment, the UK
government department supporting the visit.
"We recognise the importance of
Brunei as a market with real opportunities for UK companies in the
oil and gas industry. We want to promote UK offshore expertise,
which has been developed in the unforgiving environment of the North
Sea. And we want to promote the sharing of that expertise with
Brunei companies, said Mr John Saville, British Tdigh Commissioner
to Brunei.
In Brunei, the UK delegation will
hear briefings from Brunei LNG in Lumut and Brunei Shell Petroleum
in Seria. The group will also attend a reception in BSB hosted by
the Britain Brunei Business Forum (BBBF) to allow the visitors to
network and enhance their understanding of the local business
environment.
On Friday, the delegation will meet
in Kuala Belait with local contractors to give them a chance for
further business discussions and fostering of ties.
This is the second time the NOF
Energy is visiting Brunei. A similar trip took place late, last
year, which was the first of such UK trade missions to the country.
This year's event will be longer and will provide more opportunities
for engagement with local companies, added the press release.
Direct UK exports to Brunei are
worth 67m, making the UK the third largest exporter to the country,
supplying 19 per cent of its imports.
Members of the public, especially
the business community in the oil and gas_ supply chain and energy
