AAPA Forum

Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nurul
Bolqiah launched the Asia-Pacific Aviation Environmental Forum 2006
yesterday.
The forum was organised by the
Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) and hosted by Royal
Brunei Airlines (RBA).
Her Royal Highness was greeted upon
arrival at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong, by the
Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pengiran Dato
Haji Abdul Hamid who is also Chairman of RBA and Executive Chairman
of the Asia Pacific Aviation Environmental Forum 2006. . In his
welcoming speech, the Permanent Secretary said that RBA and AAPA
were committed to ensure the development of safe, efficient, and
environmentally friendly air transport system while being profitable
and service-oriented, bringing about an atmosphere conducive to the
stimulation of the travel and tourism industry.
The Minister of Development, Pehin
Dato Awang Haji Abdullah in his keynote address called on the
business and corporate community to recognise that the environmental
protection and conservation is neither an obstacle to economic
growth nor a burden to the economy but offered opportunities for
sustainable growth.
Earlier the Managing-Director of
Brunei Shell Petroleum, Dr. Grahaeme Henderson who said Brunei Shell
Petroleum has cut greenhouse gas emission by more than 50 percent
from the 1996 levels by substantially reducing contributions from
venting and flaring, and improving efficiently the company's
operations.
At the function, the students of
the Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan also presented a choir.
Subsequently, Her Royal Highness
officially launched the two-day Asia-Pacific Aviation Environmental
Forum 2006.
Her Royal Highness then received a
souvenir from the Executive Organising Committee.
The forum aims to update and share
ideas with participants from the aviation environment association of
the Asia Pacific nations with the latest developments regard to
environmental issues perspective globally as well as the aviation
