QAF FC Beat Wijaya For Final
By Dannie Abu Basrah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - It will be QAF FC against ABDB for the final of the
20051 2006 League Cup on Tuesday, Dec 5 after QAF FC defeated Wijaya
FC 3-1 last night in the second semifinal match at the Belapan
field.
QAF
FC kicked off the game without suspended Ito Dan and injured Hardi
Bujang while striker Riwandi Wahif was kept on the bench after
sustaining a serious injury from their recent participation in the
AFT qualifiers.
Right on the first minute, QAF FC
were handed a golden lead, a gift from Wijaya FC defender, Jamrin Hj
Johari who mistakenly nodded into his own net after trying to clear
an Adie Arsham flick header.
Adie Arsham came close to doubling
QAF FC lead but only managed to hit the side netting from five yards
on the 19th minute. It was an even game with both sides displaying
end-to-end action.
Trailing by a goal, Wijaya FC
squandered the chance to equalise from a very good position on the
27th minute after Suni Mat Jerah failed to deliver a perfect square
pass to the unmarked Marhazif Ahad with only the goalie to beat.
Despite the miss, Wijaya FC
eventually managed to bring the game back to square one from a
spectacular individual goal scored by skipper Suni Mat Jerah on the
32' minute who calmly controlled a high ball with his chest with his
back facing the goal before unleashing a powerful volley to the top
corner.
QAF
FC goalie Mohd Sahan Mumtaz Ali produced a fine save four minutes
before the break from a one-on-one situation to make sure the game
was still open for both sides as halftime ended at 1-1.
The save proved to be crucial as
QAF FC started the second half with a much better performance as ex-Wijaya
FC's Ratano Hj Tuah gave them the lead again on the 48th minute with
a glancing header after reaching on to a right corner. Viban Francis
Bayong then added a third goal for QAF FC with a superbly taken free
kick outside the box, hitting the ball over the wall before bouncing
off the right post and into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Wijaya
FC responded by committing too many players up field risking their
own thin backline as their tactics managed to trouble the QAF FC
defence a little bit but was constantly disappointed by their lack
of finishing touch once the chance arises. Things turned from bad to
worse for the battling Wijaya FC as they were reduced to 10 men
after skipper Suni Mat Jerah was given his marching orders on the
82nd minute for a second bookable offence.
The numerical disadvantage did not
help Wijaya FC's chances to reduce the deficit or even search for
the equaliser as QAF FC defence stood firm to their lead with the
game finally ending at 3-1 with them progressing to the final.-- Courtesy of Borneo
