Man Fined For Poison Possession
By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 39-year-old Malaysian who possessed poison was fined $800 on Saturday by the Bandar Magistrate's Court or in default a one-month imprisonment.

Rahmat bin Hj Kechut, a Loss Adjuster in Malacca who occasionally performs duties in Brunei for Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) was found carrying a `Vanilla Coke 500 ml' bottle in his luggage upon his arrival from Kuala Lumpur.

The bottle was seized by a customs officer on suspicion that it contained cough mixture, the court heard.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Joe Chan said upon examination done by the Department of Scientific Services (DSS), it was found to contain 320ml of dark brown liquid containing Promethazine, a poison listed in the Poisons Act.

The suspicious bottle was not in a receptacle distinctly labeled with the name of the substance Promethazine and did not bear some distinction or mark indicating that it contained the poison. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
