BEnA Exhibition Targets
Sustainable Development

Begawan - The Brunei Energy Association (BEnA) exhibition
2006 with the theme "Providing a Platform for Sustainable
Development" began yesterday morning at the ICC in Berakas.
On hand to officiate the BEnA
exhibition 2006 was Minister of Energy Pehin Dato Awang Hj Yahya in
his capacity as BEnA's honorary advisor. The Minister of Energy in
his keynote address said the theme of the exhibition is very
appropriate and relevant to today's world.
He said a worldwide survey by the
United Nations has identified 15 global issues that will dominate
the future and the foremost of these is achieving sustainable
development. It said, "Never before has the world's opinion been as
united on a single goal as it is on achieving sustainable
development."
Awang
Zainal Abidin Bin Hj Mohd Ali, president of Brunei Energy
Association, in his speech outlined the aims of the exhibition,
among them are to enhance the understanding of the public on the
conservation and efficiency in the utilisation of energy.
He also noted some of the
activities that BEnA has organised this year. After the speeches,
the minister with other invited guests proceeded to visit the
exhibition booths.
More than 30 companies and several
higher educational bodies are participating in the exhibition, as
well as the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre, which has been invited to
exhibit materials and conduct workshops.
Some of the major participating
companies are Brunei Shell Petroleum, Total, Brunei LNG, Brunei
Shell Marketing, Petroleum Brunei, Brunei Shell Tankers, Brunei Gas
Carriers, Baiduri Bank, Adinin Group of Companies, - Mashhor Group
of Companies, Bureau Veritas, Mitsubishi Corporation.
The event is open to the public and
it offers the exhibitors an opportunity to network with individuals
from all walks of life.
The showcase will also allow the
general public to meet with representatives from a variety of
companies, an opportunity to as-k any questions in an informal
environment, meet with hiring authorities on career development and
prospective internships and to learn about employment trend, current
and future positions in the different companies.
Throughout the week leading to the
opening of the exhibition, BEnA organised a phone quiz competition
with KristalFM whereby listeners stood a chance to win numerous
attractive prizes. Other competitions will be held during the
exhibition to give visitors a chance to win attractive prizes. On
the first and second day of the exhibition, BEnA has invited a local
band, Q'Prodigy, to play live to entertain guests and visitors at
the exhibition.
The fair is open to the public
today (November 25) from 10am to 8pm and tomorrow (November 26) from
