Malaysian Woman Fined For Misusing Customs Permit
By Malai FadleyRizal and Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 43-year-old Malaysian Cheri Anak Siok was fined $800 or a month in jail in default after pleading guilty to misusing a customs permit, before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Customs officers who were tippedoff earlier, spotted the defendant as their suspect and tailed the defendant who entered the country from Limbang on the morning of September 7.

The defendant was a passenger with four other friends in a vehicle, which was finally stopped by the customs personnel at Kilanas filling station.

Upon being detained alone and questioned, the defendant admitted that she had brought 12 cans of Tiger beer and declared the alcohol for customs clearance that day. But she gave the alcohol away to a friend somewhere in Kampong Tanjong Bunut prior to being detained.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
