Immigration Dept Explains
'No-Show'
By M K Anwar
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Immigration and National Registration
Department in a statement yesterday reiterated that the department
will not consider any social visit visa application either for
professionals or businesses wishing to organise performances, shows,
exhibitions or expos in the country without prior approval from the
appropriate government agencies.
This was in response to yesterday's
article in the Borneo Bulletin entitled "No-show for world's tallest
man due to visa problem". The world's tallest man, Mr Ijaz Ahmed,
and shortest man, Mr Ali Zaman, both from Pakistan were supposed to
have come on-Sunday but visa problem meant that their appearance in
the country had to be delayed.
In relation to the article, the
department explained that the organiser that brought the two
foreigners into the country had failed to apply for any approval
from the appropriate government agencies, in this case, the Ministry
of Home Affairs to organise any shows for the public.
Their failure to obtain the
approval meant that the Immigration Department was not able to
consider the visas required by the two foreigners.
The department advised the public
to always be aware of the visa requirement in particular from
countries that need it to enter the country, including for social
visit purposes.-- Courtesy of Borneo
