New Teachers Briefed

Begawan - The Department of Schools, through the Primary
Education, Secondary Education and Teachers' Recruitment and
Development Sections, recently organised a half-day briefing session
for the new teachers, which took place at the Dewan Penghayatan,
Institut PerkhidmatanAwam (Civil Service Institute) in Rimba, Gadong.
The guest of honour at the briefing was Cikgu Juna bin Jumat, the
Acting Assistant Director of Schools, on behalf of the Director of
Schools.
In his remarks, Cikgu Juna stressed
upon the new teachers on the importance of being "more dynamic and
creative".
He also advised the new teachers to
act as "intermediaries" between their schools and parents, in
discussing matters relating to learning while helping students in
their weak subjects.
The Head of Teachers' Recruitment
and Development, Cikgu Pg Othman bin Pg Daud, in his welcoming
speech earlier told the new teachers not to be "picky" on their
postings. He advised them to "contribute their expertise and
abilities" to the fullest, not only for overall school development
but also for their students' individual performances.
The briefing was attended by 74 new
teachers who graduated recently from UBD. 67 of them graduated with
a Diploma in Primary Education and will be posted to primary schools
throughout Brunei, while the rest received Certificates in Lower
Secondary Science, and will be posted to secondary schools or
colleges.
The briefing was aimed to prepare
the teachers on their new career. The session included talks from
representatives of the Department of Administrations and Services,
as well as the Assistant Director of Primary Education and Secondary
Education. The session was also attended by senior Education
