Citibank’s 1st Global Community
Day
By Azrol Azmi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Citibank volunteers in Brunei Darussalam yesterday
joined more than 40,000 Citigroup volunteers in 100 countries for the
company's first "Global Community Day".
More than 60 volunteers comprising
employees and their families and friends worked together to provide
support for the refurbishment of a block of classrooms at Pusat Ehsan.
Present to greet the Citibank
volunteers yesterday at the centre were Mr David Hun en, Consultant
for Pusat Ehsan and Pg Datin Hajah Noraini Pg Hj Abd Momin, Executive
Trustee of the Board of Trustee of Pusat Ehsan.
The bank also hosted a Social Night
with the special students of the centre at the Jerudong Park Country
Club last night. This was the first Global Community Day organised
under the Citigroup's trademark red umbrella on a worldwide effort
that involved more than 800 projects in 400 cities around the world.
Recognising
that many Citigroup employees volunteer year-round in their
communities, Global Community Day helps to celebrate Citigroup's
volunteer spirit on a one-day operation around the world. Volunteer
teams worked on a variety of projects addressing specific community
needs including literacy, housing, environmental protection, nutrition
and health care.
Leading the Citibank volunteer team
in Brunei, Mr Glen Rase, Director and Citigroup Country Officer for
Citibank Brunei Darussalam said yesterday that Citibank Brunei chose
refurbishment for the centre because they believed in the local
community and knew that partnering with an organisation like Pusat
Ehsan can make a big difference.
He also added that the bank has
joined with the Brunei Association of Banks in providing computer
stations for Pusat Ehsan in the past. The organisation works to help
individuals achieve all they are capable of achieving, thus in the
process the entire community is enriched. -- Courtesy of Borneo
