Hari Raya Joy For Belait Orphans

Bandar Seri Begawan - Some 360 orphans in the Belait district were presented green packets at a Hari Raya gathering organised by the Belait District Orphanage Fund yesterday afternoon. The event was held at Mumong Sports Complex.

Chief guest at the Hari Raya gathering was Belait District Officer, Hj Mohammad bin Hj Abd Rahman and his spouse.

Co-chairman of the event, Hj Zulkifli bin Hj Tengah from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, said the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with Belait orphans is an annual event organised by committee members in an effort to show attentiveness towards orphans in the district, particularly during the Syawal month.

The event is held to share festive joy with less fortunate members in the country, especially children, and also to foster closer relations between Belait district orphans and committee members.

Hj-Zulkifli hoped that orphans would be entertained with the various games and performances planned for the event and advised guardians of orphans who received financial contributions earlier to spend the money wisely.

A host of fun contests such as colouring, eating hanging breads, walking with a book on top of their head, blowing balloons, tossing ping-pong balls into a bucket and a guessing competition, were among games held at the event in a bid to entertain the orphans, aged up to 18-years-old.

Other event included Tausyeh performances, singing sessions and a magic show.
