With Caution
By Azrol Azmi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The second Jawi writing workshop for the Tiong Hua
community ended yesterday with the presentation of certificates to the
participants.
More than 60 people attended the
workshop that was divided into classes for beginners and advanced
learners. The workshop was held at the Islamic Dakwah Centre in
Kampong Pulaie.
Guest of honour at the certificate
presentation, Awang Haji Mohammad bin Garing, Acting Deputy Director
ofthe Islamic Dakwah Centre, presented certificates to the
participants.
Awang
Haji Mohammad said that the Jawi writing workshop has received an
overwhelming response from the non-Malay communities in the Sultanate.
He added that Jawi writing can be commercialised as wall paintings,
taking advantage of the different strokes and designs of Jawi writing.
He said Jawi writing artists can
commercialise their talent and creativity but are reminded to do so
cautiously and not to mistake it with Quran writing or words.
He also stressed that Jawi writing is
not entirely owned by one race but it can be used by any other races,
if used cautiously.
Meanwhile, Head of Convention and
Maintenance Unit, Abd Aziz bin Hj Abd Kahar, said that the workshop
helped to introduce Jawi writing and develop it further to other
communities. -- Courtesy of Borneo
