NCB, RBA Team Up To Fight Drug
Trafficking
By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - According to statistics from the Narcotics Control
Bureau (NCB), 18 attempts to smuggle drugs into the country via Brunei
International Airport have been recorded since 1988. In these
incidents, the drug traffickers were apprehended at the Immigration
section of the airport.
Last month, an overseas student on a
flight from Kuala Lumpur was carrying marijuana and hallucinogen
pills.
Even though drug traffickers are
aware that they could face the death penalty in the Sultanate, drug
trafficking will not be easy to eradicate.
In light of this, the NCB sees the
national carrier, Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), as a strategic partner
in its fight against drugs.
It is hoped that this would send a
clear message to the public, particularly the airline's passengers,
not to act foolishly by carrying out activities that are against the
laws and regulations of Brunei.
This was stated by NCB's deputy
director, Awg Hj Abd Aziz OKMB Hj Othman, who was speaking during the
launching of the "Anti-Drugs Promo On Board RBA" yesterday morning at
the RBA Golf Club in Berakas.
It js important for the NCB and RBA
to work together to tackle drug trafficking to safeguard the good name
and image of the nation, he added.
Speaking of behalf of the bureau, Awg
Hj Abd Aziz thanked RBA for agreeing to play short anti-drug videos in
its aircraft.
At yesterday's event, the deputy
director of NCB handed over the anti-drugs video to Hj Abu Hanafiah Hj
Abu Bakar, the acting CEO of RBA. Also present were senior officers
from NCB and RBA. -- Courtesy of Borneo
