Plenty Of Room For Malaysia-Brunei
Collaboration
Kota Belud -
Brunei Darussalam yesterday expressed interest in continuing
and expanding its collaboration with Malaysia in military areas.
Commander of the Royal Brunei Land
Forces (RBLF) Colonel Pg Dato Paduka Rosli Pg C,hucu said such
collaboration would bring mutual benefits in terms of peace and
security for the two countries.
He hoped the existing joint military
training between the two countries dubbed as "Mertak Bersatu" would be
extended, and its modules updated so that it would be relevant to the
current needs of the two nations.
The "Mertak Bersatu" was participated
by 200 officers and members of the Malaysian Army, and 160 officers
and members from the Bruneian force.
The mortar operation training, which
was held at the Paradise Camp firing range, some 85 kilometres from
Kota Kinabalu, started last Nov 6 and ended yesterday.
Closing the training here, the
Commander of RBLF said the current world, filled with natural or
man-inflicted turmoils, demanded the armed forces to use all the
opportunities to train and raise their professional levels.
"Our expertise and services are
needed at any time. It is not in a military mission but in
humanitarian missions in countries suffering from natural disasters,"
he said.
He said the "Mertak Bersatu"
training, held every two years since 1994, was crucial in bilateral
military relationships and in improving the professional levels of the
forces in the two countries.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Defence Forces
Acting Chief Lt General Datuk Mohammad Ismail Jamaluddin, who was at
the closing ceremony, said the mortar operation training was
successful in its objectives.
'`There was no injury in the training
that used some 3,000 live ammunitions," he said.
In addition to the mortar operation
training, Mohammad Ismail said the two countries also hold combat
training every year, where they take turns to be the host. -- Courtesy of Borneo
