By Hj Minor Absah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 'fire' broke out on the l0th floor of a building in
the capital yesterday. Twenty-four personnel and four fire engines
from the Beribi Fire Station rushed to the scene after receiving a
distress call at 2.45pm.
This was the scenario of a fire
drill. The operation was led by Hj Ahmad bin Daud.
According to the Fire and Rescue
Services Department, the `fire' was caused by a cook who accidentally
spilled oil. After the fire alarm was triggered, residents and staff
members evacuated the building.
Fortunately, the kitchen staff was
able to stop the fire from spreading before personnel from the Fire
and Rescue Services Department arrived.
Hj
Ahmad told the Bulletin that the drill was to sharpen the skills of
the Fire and Rescue personnel so that they would be ready to battle a
real fire in a high-rise building. -- Courtesy of Borneo
