By Za'im Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei's only religious teachers training college has
been upgraded and teachers coming out of the institution will receive
diplomas instead of certificates.
"In answering His Majesty's call for
the status of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers Training College to be
upgraded, the Ministry of Religious Affairs through a pilot working
committee and support from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council has
completed its plan for the study and training programmes of the
college to be upgraded to a' Diploma replacing its Certificate
status."
Pehin
Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin
Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Deputy Minister of Religious
Affairs, disclosed this during the 28th convocation ceremony for
students of the college yesterday.
Inspired by hard work and wisdom when
the religious teachers college was established in 1972, and driven by
the objective of an ideal religious life in Brunei, hopefully we'll
succeed in the upgrade to the status of the training as well as the
academics at the college, from certificate to diploma, added the
Deputy Minister.
He told the new graduates to always
remember their status as religious teachers.
"The training and knowledge that you
master are enough for you to become a religious person," he added.
"Practise the knowledge and skill
that made you a religious person and you should impart proper
teachings so that your students get a proper religious training."
The Deputy Minister also revealed
that in more than a quarter of a century the college has produced a
total of 3,697 religious teachers.
The college has become a symbol of
Islamic development in the country where its results are noticeable
with graduates of this college contributing through the teaching and
management of religious teaching.
Haji
Abdul Rahim bin Haji Gantang, Principal of the Religious Teachers
Training College, in his welcoming remarks said, "A total of 115
trainee teachers in the 20032006 session have completed their courses
and will be presented with teaching certificates while 14participants
who are in service training will receive their certificates for post
Al-Quran reading that has gone on for a year."
While 11 students for the 2005-2006
session received awards for outstanding achievements, a female
student, Hjh Nor Fazilah binte Haji Judin, received an award for
outstanding achievement in practical and academic fields for the
session 2003-2006. -- Courtesy of Borneo
