Dato Basir Primary School Champions

Bandar Seri Begawan - Dato Basir Primary School emerged champions of the 2006 Primary School Futsal Tournament (for Primary Six students) when they beat Dato Mahawangsa Lambak Primary School 2-1 in penalty shootout at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Berakas yesterday.

The host Dato Basir Primary School survived the pressure piled up by Dato Mahawangsa Lambak Primary School despite taking an early lead.

Md Arif bin Hamdani of Dato Mahawangsa Lambak dribbled past the defenders to cancel out an early goal by Asrol bin Ismail of Dato Basir to draw 1-1 after normal time.

Md Arif's superb performance later won him the best player award throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Dato Mohd Yassin Primary School defeated SAB Sungai Besar Primary School 4-0 in the third place playoff match.

Twenty-one primary schools took part in the two-day tournament organised by Co-Curriculum Education Department in collaboration with Dato Basir Primary School.

The guest-of-honour, Hj Kamis bin Hj Talip, District Senior Supervisor II & IV presented the prizes to the winners. Also present was Dato Basir Primary School principal Hjh Dyg Sarimah binti Hj Awg Bakir.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
