Dang Kasum Remembers Late Actors In Raya Open House

Bandar Seri Begawan - Comedy actress Hajah Kasumawati Hj Buntar, affectionately called Dang Kasum, entertained showbiz counterparts, friends, fans and workmates to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house yesterday afternoon in Kg Sungai Besar.

Over the past year, the local drama industry lost three actors: Jamil, Madun and recently Yahya Mat Zain, who died in a car accident in Limbang two weeks ago, she said.

"For Jamil and Madun it was not too much of a shock since they had been ill for quite sometime. But for Yahya, it was a real shocking news since he died suddenly in a car accident," she said.

She considers Yahya as one of her best friends because he was a nice and easy person to mix with, she said. "When I received the news of his death, I just slumped on my seat. I called my friends to confirm the news.

"Unfortunately, I was on duty at that time. Otherwise. I would have straight away gone to the hospital to pay my last respects. "Most of us actors and actresses were at his house the day he was buried," said Dang Kasum.

She said Yahya always confided her on matters regarding the drama industry in Brunei. Dang Kasum said she has plenty of advertisement stints to do this year after doing occasional comedy sketches during His Majesty's 60th Birthday celebration and having appearances in a few private functions.

"For the first time since I started acting in drama in 1992, I did not have any offer to act this year. "I hope drama producers will not forget me in the next filming session," she said. She appears with a local funny group from Kg Medewa, Kumpulan 69.

"I enjoy doing comical sketches with them. They are so funny and natural," she said. Dang Kasum started acting in 1992 in a drama, Pindah (Migrate), written by RAY and directed by Azzamain Dato Hj Adanan.

She acted with the late Yahya Mat Zain. She was considered as the biggest discovery for many years. She is not only a good actress but can also make the audience laugh on stage. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
