Brunei Boosts Ties With Ministry
Of Governmental Sector Development UAE

Begawan - The Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia
Awang Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, held a courtesy call with the
Minister of Governmental Sector Development, UAE and Chairman of
Emirates Post, Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, prior to the opening of the
Universal Postal Union (UPU) Strategy Conference held at the Grand
Hyatt Hotel in UAE, a press release stated.
During the meeting, Sultan Saeed Al
Mansouri expressed hope that the UPU Strategy Conference would not
only provide the right platform for delegations from all members of
UPU to keep abreast with the development of the postal industry and to
establish networking with various officials to establish better
cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
Meanwhile, the Brunei minister
congratulated the government of UAE for hosting the conference for the
first time away from its headquarters in Switzerland. He also
expressed satisfaction with the close and excellent economic
relationship fostered between both countries and believed that such a
relationship is important in establishing better cooperation between
both countries in the future.
Both ministers also agreed on the
need to sign a memorandum of understanding at the operator's level.
Among areas of potential cooperation include sharing experiences and
including procedure! approach of Emirates Posts in corporatising
several postal services, training for maintenance of equipment and the
use of software for point sales, including money remittance.
Also discussed during the courtesy
call were other sectors under the portfolios of each ministry, namely
Civil Aviation and Telecommunications sectors. The Brunei minister
said he hoped that Royal Brunei Airlines will have more connections to
airports in UAE, while Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri expressed readiness to
provide cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, Brunei in
sharing the experiences of the UAE government in regulating the
telecommunications industry, particularly in creating a conducive
environment for private operators to operate based on a level playing
field.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abu Bakar also presented a memento to
Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri during the courtesy call.
Later, the Brunei delegation visited
UAE's Mail Processing Centre of the Emirates Post. Accompanying the
Brunei minister were the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Communications, Pg Hj Mohd Yakub bin Pg Hj Othman and Postmaster
General of Brunei, Hj Abdul Kadir bin Tengah.

Governmental Sector Development, UAE and Chairman of Emirates Post was
