Promoting Nation Via Photography
Contest
By Asri Razak
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A Photography competition, Colours of Brunei, is on
to create increased awareness and promote travel around the Sultanate.
Brunei Tourism Board CEO Sheikh
Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamed said the contest for the best picture of
Brunei Darussalam captured by digital camera, played a vital role in
boosting the nation's tourism industry.
"We supported a similar project last
year (themed Faces of Brunei) and we will continue to support this
year's project. A pictune pens a thousand words," said the CEO in a
phone interview yesterday.
He said in the previous competition,
pictures of Brunei's water villages, beautiful mosques, architecture
and cultural activities had pulled tourists into the country.
The photos, published in a magazine
of the same name, had successfully provided a preview of the
uniqueness of the nation, added Sheikh Jamaluddin.
Nor Hasnul Hamdani, assistant manager
of Rakan Tiga Media - one of the organisers of the contest - revealed
that last year's competition received great response from photography
enthusiasts and he was confident there would be more entries this time
around.
He also thanked the Tourism Board for
enabling it to help promote Brunei's tourism industry. "The magazine
is both pictorial and informative periodical for locals and foreigners
who plan to visit the nation," he said.
He said the competition was also made
feasible with the cooperation of Golden Frontier Travel Networks
Crisnobel Communications, which distributed the magazines. --
