Rotary Club Helps Build Computer
Laboratory

Begawan - The Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan is helping to
build a computer laboratory to help schools selected by the club, its
president, Albert Tan, told a press conference yesterday.
The club is seeking donations of
unused computers which are still in good working condition to help the
project. Donors may contact Rotarian Ricky Ng at 8981288.
In January next year, the club will
hand over wheelchairs to Pusat Ehsan in Kg Bengkurong Masin for the
special people.
In early March, the club will be
holding forums and eye screenings for students from selected schools.
It will also help students who cannot afford to buy glasses by giving
them free eyeglasses under its Avoidable Blindness Project.
In March, Rotary Bursary Assistance
Awards will be given to students who cannot afford to pay their school
fees. This is the club's annual projectt to help needy students in
selected schools.
Meanwhile, in December, the club will
be sending selected students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership
Award (RYLA) Camp Programme hosted by the Rotary Club of Kuching.
Last year, the club sent three local
students to the RYLA hosted by the Rotary Club of Pontian, Johor, said
Tiong Kee Huat, Sergeant -At-Arms.
RYLA
aims to demonstrate Rotary respect and concern for youth, provide
effective training for selected youth and potential leaders and
encourage leadership qualities. Each year, the club sponsors three to
six students to attend the programme in Malaysia, he said.
The club is also involved in helping
the rural community in the remote areas of Bakalan to generate a water
system for the villages and rural folk. This International Service
Community Project is a joint undertaking with the Rotary Club of
Kuching.
The BSB club with the Rotary Club of
Bintulu is also helping the rural community in Sg Kakus in the Ulu
Belaga area to obtain electricity supply and clean wafer.
Also present at the meeting were
Kenneth Ling, Ricky Ng and Wong Chin Toon. The club has 17 members.
