School Inspectors Attend Report Writing Workshop

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Department of Schools Inspectorate under the Ministry of Education yesterday held a "Professional Training Programme Workshop: Report Writing" at the Civil Service Institute.

The four-day workshop was officiated by Mr Lim Jock Cheng, Director of the Department of Schools Inspectorate, Ministry of Education and it will be held until November 16.

The 38 officers who attend the workshop come from the Department of Schools Inspectorate, Department of Schools, Special Education Unit, Curriculum Development Department and Department of Planning, Development and Research, all under the Ministry of Education.

Also attending the workshop are officers from the Private Education Section, as observers. The Director of the Department of Schools Inspectorate said that it is the department's responsibility to evaluate and report the quality of education at all educational institutions in the nation.

He said in order to carry out their tasks efficiently and effectively, the officers and inspectors in his department need sufficient knowledge and expertise not only in evaluating but also in report writing.

He said an accurate and comprehensible evaluative report is essential in reflecting a clear and valid representation thus making it easier for the relevant authority to make appropriate recommendations.

Therefore, the purpose of conducting the workshop is to improve the participants' report writing in an evaluative format, increase their capacity in evaluating and producing reports that reflect the outcome of the evaluation and at the same time, to generate a group of competent Inspectors of Schools and to shape the Department of Scha$s Inspectorate as a learning organisation.

A consultant from Malaysia, Mr Aloysius Lee, an expert in training school inspectors in evaluative report writing, will share his experiences with participants during the workshop. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
