1000 Join Teacher's Day Walkathon

Bandar Seri Begawan - More than 1,000 Ministry of Education personnel, teachers and students joined the annual walkathon to celebrate Teacher's Day yesterday at the MoE parking area at the Old Airport in Berakas.

The guest of honour was Pehin Dato Awg Haji Abd Rahman bin Dato Haji Mohd Taib, Minister of Education. The male participants walked five kilometres while the women covered three kilometres. Officiating the walkathon for the men was the Minister of Education. His spouse officiated the women marathon.

Proceeds from the event will go to the welfare fund, sports activity fund and orphans fund of the education ministry. The walkathon aimed to increase awareness on the importance of a healthy lifestyle through exercise, strengthen ties among the ministry's staff, give them a chance to donate for charity and enliven Teacher's Day celebration.

Also present were Deputy Education Minister Pengiran Dato Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abd Rahman and MoE personnel. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
