By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Minister of Communications Pehin Dato Hi Awg Abu
Bakar Hj Apong is leading Brunei delegates to the Universal Postal
Union (UPU) Strategy Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from
Nov 14-18.
The minister is accompanied by the
ministry's acting Permanent Secretary Pg Hj Mohd Yakub Pg Hj Othman,
Post Master General Hj Abd Kadir Hj Tengah and several senior
officials from the ministry and the Postal Services Department.
A thousand delegates from more than
130 member countries, leaders from government, postal operators and
private sectors, will be discussing and analysing the changing
environment and exploring ways of building a dynamic global
infrastructure able to satisfy customer needs. This is the first time
the conference is organised away from its headquarters, Switzerland.
Dubai is hosting this year's UPU
under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and ruler of Dubai.
"With the growing trend of
globalisation coupled with the rapid development of ICT, Postal
Services Department is continuously facing challenges to maintain its
relevancy in providing postal services in the country despite the
existence of competitors," the ministry said. The Department of Postal
Services needs to learn from the experience of developed and
developing countries on the various strategies and new products
available and how existing products could further be improved to meet
customer needs, it added. -- Courtesy of Borneo
