Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Himpunan Wanita PBB (Hawa) group yesterday
donated clothing, food and cash to Hjh Rosni bteAbdullah, a widow in
her 60s whose house in Kg Sungai Lalit, Lumut was engulfed in flames
on November 6.
Hjh
Rosni is now staying in a hut beside her corn and chilli farm in the
village.
She did not manage to save anything
except for the clothes she was wearing that day.
The money that she had saved up to
hold a tahlil and doa arwah ceremony for her late husband was also
destroyed. "I also lost all of my jewellery including the ones that
were given to me by my late husband," she said.
She told the Bulletin that she was
working in her corn field when her house caught fire at nine o'clock
that morning. "My daughter-in-law was screaming at the top of her
lungs as she thought I was still sleeping in the house. Thanks to
Allah, I am alive even though I have lost everything to the fire," she
said.
According to Hawa, the donation was
part of its "Jejak Ehsan" project to help the misfortunate in the
Sultanate. Meanwhile, more donations came pouring in for Hjh Rosni.
The Brunei Islamic Religious Council
also offered some financial assistance to Hjh Rosni and her maid,
Jojah binte Sajum, yesterday morning. They both received $200 during a
ceremony held at the Belait Religious Affairs Office.
It was presented by Pg Haji Yunus bin
Pg Hj Mohd Salleh, Belait District's chief religious officer. Also
present was Awang Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad, the Ketua Kampong of Lumut 1.
