National Development
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Japan is going to send 14 participants to a seminar
on Modernising the Civil Service in Alignment with National
Development Goals, which is being jointly conducted by the Eastern
Regional Organisation for Public Administration (EROPA) and Public
Service Department of the Prime Minister's Office from November 13 to
17.
The Japanese delegation will be
headed by Mr Yoshida Satoshi, President, Local Autonomy College,
Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
Japan as an original member country
of EROPA, which was established in 1960, takes an active role.
As one of the significant dedications
from Japan to EROPA, the EROPA Local Government Centre was established
in October 1964 in Tokyo.
It is hosting a training programme to
provide theories and practical knowledge on local administration
mainly in the EROPA region.
Since 1964 to date, the centre has
received 479 trainees from 55 countries.
Apart from the two-month training
programme, it is also active in publications and studies on the local
administration system. -- Courtesy of Borneo
