Imams Seek End To Noise Pollution
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Religious authorities in the Sultanate are unhappy
that some shopping centres continue to play loud music even during the
call for prayer (Azan), as it is very disrespectful.
In Friday's sermon, imams slammed
shopping establishments for not turning down the music whenever the
call for prayer is made.
Meanwhile, imams said that there was
a worrying trend of people who would ignore the call for prayer. Be it
inside a mosque, near a mosque or shopping complexes near a mosque,
Muslims should not neglect the call, they added.
They said that Muslims are encouraged
to repeat the verses that had been uttered by the prayer caller even
as they are watching television, chit-chatting or doing sports.
"Even Muslims who read Al-Quran are
also asked to stop reading when a call for prayer is echoed or heard,"
the imams said, adding that the same goes with a person who is
studying or reciting prayers.
As Brunei is a Muslim country, it is
important for people to respect the call for prayer. Imams advised
Muslims not to ignore such teachings in order to receive blessings
from Allah the Almighty.
When the call for prayer is heard on
Fridays, Muslims should stop conducting their daily business
activities and go to the mosque, the imams said. The call for prayer
can chase the devil away, treat those who are "possessed" and keep
evil jin (spirits) at bay, they added. -- Courtesy of Borneo
