Mystery Caller Targeting Banks For
'Honey'
By Ignatius Stephen
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Most people call the bank for money. A prank caller
in the Brunei capital is targeting banks here for "Honey".
For the past day or so a mystery
caller has been ringing up the female staff in some banks in Brunei
calling them "Honey" and making annoying propositions to them. And if
the girls are not amiable he turns nasty pouring out a torrent of
abuse.
"He can also be nasty and say dirty
words and use suggestive language," said a female bank staff.
"I slammed the phone down. When he
called again a male staff answered. He talked to the man and managed
to get his father's name," she said.
The caller seemed to be young perhaps
19 or so, the bank staff said. He called the Kuala Belait branch first
and asked her by name, said a staff. But what was worrying was that he
knew the name of the female staff as he would ask the telephone
operator the specific name of the victim.
There have also been instances of
other young women driving alone at night being victimised. A young
woman who drove out alone one night last week was followed by a
strange car.
There were two young men in the
vehicle who stopped outside the cafe where she had an appointment.
When she came out later they followed her. Frightened she returned to
the cafe and told the cafe management about it.
When the cafe staff confronted the
two men they said they were private detectives. When the staff
threatened to make a police report they drove off. Brunei, although
largely crime free, has a history of perverts who stalk young girls at
night. Peeping tom incidents also happen. -- Courtesy of Borneo
