Crown Prince Receives Award

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince yesterday received the Philippines' prestigious Order of Lakandula.

Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presented the award at the Manila Polo Club in recognition of His Royal Highness' leadership and dedication.

According to a statement from Brunei's Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness and President Arroyo exchanged views on bilateral relations between Brunei and the Philippines.

They also expressed satisfaction with the excellent progress of the cooperation between the two countries.

The event was witnessed by Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah who accompanied her husband. The royal couple was also treated to a luncheon by the President and her husband, Miguel Tuason Arroyo.

Earlier yesterday, His Royal Highness visited the operations centre of the Philippines' National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) in Aguinaldo Camp in Manila. Greeting His Royal Highness wasAntonio Santos, the National Defence department's undersecretary.

The royal visit began with the welcome remarks by Antonio, followed by a briefing on the establishment of NDCC.

His Royal Highness was also informed on the the framework of the council's Disaster Management System and its plan of action.

The centre's operation chief, Agnes Palacio then provided a summary of the functions and facilities provided by NDCC Internet news organisation INQ7.net reported that His Royal

Highness, who chairs Brunei National Disaster Coordinating Council, was provided pointers on disaster response, especially in preventing an avian flu outbreak.

It is reported that Brunei intends to emulate NDCC's system to maintain the Sultanate's avian flu-free status.

The official meetings were part of His Royal Highness' activities in the country since his arrival on November 1. Earlier this week, His Royal Highness competed for the first time in the World Pool Championship.  -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
