Glimpse Of New Microsoft Windows
Vista, Office 2007
By Azaraimy
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Local IT resellers were given a glimpse of the
upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista and the new Office 2007 during
yesterday's launch of TechDistribution Ltd as Microsoft's official
distributor in Brunei.
The briefing was given by Mr Nabil
Chebbi, Director Windows Client Business Group Lead, Microsoft
Southeast Asia. According to sources, the new OS might be out in the
Sultanate as soon as it is officially released. Some said that it
would not be a problem to personal computers, as they already have
computers that are capable of using the new Windows.
Prior to a change and announcement on
July 22, 2005, Vista was known by its codename Longhorn. Microsoft has
stated that the scheduled release dates are currently November 30 for
volume-licensed customers and January 30, 2007 for worldwide
availability.
Windows Vista contains hundreds of
new features, the most significant of which are an updated graphical
user interface and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved search
facilities, new multimedia creation tools like Windows DVD Maker, as
well as completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display
sub-systems.
Vista also aims to increase the level
of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer
technology, making it easier to share files as well as digital media
between computers and devices.
For developers, Vista introduces the
.NET Framework version 3.0, which aims to make it significantly easier
for developers to write high-quality applications compared to the
traditional Windows API.
Microsoft's primary stated goal with
Vista, however, has been to improve the state of security in the
Windows operating system. Bill Gates announced in early 2002 that a
company-wide `Trustworthy Computing Initiative' was aiming to
incorporate security work into every aspect of software development at
the company.
Microsoft claimed that it prioritised
improving the security of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 above
finishing Windows Vista, therefore significantly delaying its
completion. -- Courtesy of Borneo
